CA AG Issues Final CCPA Regulations
On June 1, the California Attorney General announced that he had submitted final proposed regulations for the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) to the California Office of Administrative Law. Also included in the packet filed was the explanatory Final Statement of Reasons.
While the California Office of Administrative Law will have 90 days to review for procedural compliance and, if approved, file with the Secretary of State, Attorney General Becerra has asked for expedited review due to the July 1 enforcement date set forth in the statute.
Key Takeaway: While there remain grey areas in both the statute and the regulations, companies now have the final text of what needs to be implemented and will be enforced, likely starting July 1 – and should take any remaining steps needed to be in as full compliance as possible.
